Welcome to the Sitwell Junior School Website
Working together to be the best!
Our School Ethos
Welcome to Sitwell Junior School. We are very proud of our school and our stimulating learning environment. Our aim is to promote a love of learning by providing rich, rewarding experiences through a creative curriculum. Through celebrating efforts and achievements, we aim to develop pride in the success of our pupils so that they are ready to face future challenges.
We recognise that each child is unique and that they bring their own qualities, gifts and talents that we aim to nurture and develop. Every child really does matter to us and so their contributions to the school community are valued.
As a school we are constantly looking for ways to enrich the curriculum through visits, visitors, books or ICT. We believe it is vital to engage our children through interactive, stimulating and fun teaching and learning. We aim for our children to apply their skills and knowledge in new situations. Through challenge and excitement we strive for all of our children to achieve their full potential. Their progress is carefully monitored through ongoing assessment and targets are set. These are shared with children and parents so that we can work together on the learning journey.
We are lucky to have a growing multicultural community, allowing us to celebrate diversity and develop respect and tolerance. We have developed and maintained links with the local and wider community through work with local churches and mosques; the police; sports clubs; the local hospice and the media in the area to communicate effectively with our locality. Through our work with the community we aim to prepare our children to become responsible citizens.
In order to develop our global links further we have links in the Kotli area of Pakistan, with staff visiting on exchange visits. Children have also worked as part of a British Council project to illustrate a book of Kashmiri folk tales.
We have an elected School Council, placing increasing importance on pupil voice to give their views on a variety of issues such as improving play facilities; increasing awareness of road safety in the community; developing healthy eating policies and increasing pupil responsibility. The school also organises many charity fund raising events throughout the year, raising the children’s awareness of a range of issues in so doing.
We look forward to working with you over the coming years as we really do believe that the partnership between home and school is vital. This really enhances your children’s personal and academic achievement. We welcome you into the life of the school in whatever way you can, whether it be helping on a school visit, providing support in the classroom, sharing your talents or expertise or attending one of our monthly Parents’ Forums. These partnerships help us to capture our aim of working together to be the best.
